Carytown is called “the mile of style” for a reason; here you will find dozens of boutique shops. Carytown is located in the southern portion of the Museum District. More specifically you would find yourself in the Carytown area if you are between Thompson and the Boulevard. There has been quite a boom of consignment shops and restaurants lately. Many of the older owners of buildings and businesses on Cary St. have retired and the storefronts are changing to meet customers demands. Many of these specialty shops are in historical buildings.

You won’t find many chain stores here: except at the northern tip of Carytown. The rest are small businesses, locally owned and operated that thrive on repeat customers. If you are looking to spend a day strolling with your family, eating, drinking, and shopping, Carytown is the place for you. Carytown has locally owned Sushi, Thai, Indian, Greek, French and American cuisine scattered throughout the mile.

Parking can be tough but there are enough lots behind many of the stores to accommodate everyone. We suggest parking in one of the larger lots and walking while enjoying the fresh, Richmond air.

Festivals and public events are major aspects of the culture of this unique area. There are the Food and Wine Festival, the Watermelon Festival, Taste of Carytown Restaurant Week, the Carytown 10K, Chalk up the Town, and a new addition of Carytown Craft Beer Festival.
